With the establishment of the PreCollege Würzburg, the HfM Würzburg offers exceptionally artistically gifted children and young people an opportunity to prepare for musical studies during their general school years. The aim of the early musical support is the training of top talents at the highest level, beginning at a young age, by outstanding artists and teachers of the university, who also have many years of experience in working with children and young people. It also serves to prepare students in music practice and music theory for a bachelor's degree program. It is also possible to receive credit for the work performed for a later full course of study (Bachelor of Music).

The PreCollege continues the long, successful tradition of supporting highly gifted students in Würzburg with an expanded range of subjects for all instruments, voice, jazz, and music theory/composition. Successes in competitions and scholarships attest to the high quality of the education, which is based on a diverse range of classes.

The Center for Musical Excellence Promotion Würzburg, founded in March 2019 in cooperation with the excellence branch of the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium, has created further opportunities for the targeted further development of top musical talents.
