Buddy program for international students at the University of Music Würzburg

The International Office is organizing a buddy program for international degree-seeking (BA, MA, Meisterklasse) students for the academic year 2025/26. ERASMUS incoming students will also be assigned a buddy on request.

In this program, experienced University of Music Würzburg students from higher semesters are available to provide advice and support to incoming international students. Buddies are not official supervisors - University of Music Würzburg students volunteer their time. The aim of the Buddy Program is to support new international students with the initial difficulties and to promote intercultural and linguistic exchange between students at the University of Music Würzburg and those from abroad.

What is the Buddy Program?

Students who leave their home country to study in Germany experience challenging times, especially at the beginning. The focus is on practical everyday problems such as being picked up from the train station on arrival, finding your way around Würzburg and the surrounding area, finding accommodation, registering your place of residence, opening a bank account, health insurance, etc. Due to the language difficulties, many students are overwhelmed at the beginning. Buddies also help with leisure activities, making initial contacts and answering (simple) questions about the structure and course of studies at the University of Music Würzburg. Buddies and new international students have the opportunity to meet during the International Welcome Day as well as at the regular get-togethers and first meetings.

Buddies are not responsible for problems and questions of a legal or administrative nature or for subject-related questions concerning the degree program. For such questions, international students should contact the International Office team directly and/or contact the University of Music Würzburg's degree advisement office; for questions regarding the content of your studies, please contact the subject coordinators directly.

Who can get a buddy?

As soon as international applicants have been offered a place at the University of Music Würzburg and have accepted it, they can register for the Buddy Program using the form below. The International Office will assign a buddy who will then act as a contact person for new students. Assignment is based on the following criteria: Degree program or/and major instrument and language(s) spoken, if applicable.

Who can become a buddy?

Any University of Music Würzburg student who is at least in their 2nd semester can register as a buddy. International students in higher semesters can also register as buddies and pass on their experiences. Buddy activities begin in July at the earliest, when new students are not yet on site but already have questions (e.g. about finding accommodation). In this case, buddies should be contactable by e-mail. Experience shows that students arrive shortly before or during the enrollment week (mid-September). From this point onwards, the buddies are also needed on site! The activity ends at the end of the winter semester 2025/26.

All students will receive a certificate confirming their voluntary involvement in the Buddy Program.

Note: For new German-speaking students, there is also a buddy program offered by the student council.
