Oboe

The Bachelor of Oboe program offers a comprehensive and systematic education in all stylistic areas of classical music and has as its goal the qualification for full-time work as an oboist. The artistic bachelor's degree prepares students for successful auditions in a professional orchestra or for freelance work. The artistic-pedagogical bachelor's degree, with its higher proportion of pedagogical courses, is aimed more at working as a music teacher.

Common to both courses of study are individual lessons of 90 minutes per week in the oboe as a main subject. In addition to the basic techniques on the instrument, the stylistic characteristics in baroque, classical and romantic periods as well as new playing techniques for the music of the 20th/21st century are taught. The cor anglais as the most important secondary instrument is taught in a basic way. There is also the possibility to study baroque oboe in connection with the department of historical instruments. Naturally, a sound knowledge of reed making is part of the training.

Regular auditions and class evenings, rehearsals with correpetition, wind exercises in the group as well as playing in the oboe ensemble, chamber music and the university symphony orchestra serve as preparation for professional life. Master classes with prominent external lecturers, courses on mental training and body awareness, and information on musicians' health round out the program.
