Conducting can be chosen at the HfM Würzburg as a bachelor's program with the profile choral conducting or orchestral conducting. An individual curriculum serves to meet the different professional fields of the graduates. In addition to the well-founded training in the artistic core subject of conducting, accents can be set from the beginning of the study program, e.g. symphonic repertoire, opera/operetta/musical repertoire, choral literature from early music to new, contemporary music.

The university's various choirs, ensembles, and orchestras provide students with a variety of practical conducting experiences in rehearsals and concerts. In addition, an opera production is prepared under professional conditions in the university's own, modernly equipped theater each semester and is performed publicly several times, so that students of the subject have the opportunity to take over the conducting of an entire opera.
