The Wind Philharmonic consists of students from the Würzburg University of Music. Its repertoire encompasses both classical symphonic works and the diverse range of original works for symphonic wind orchestra. Particular emphasis is placed on significant works from the international wind orchestra repertoire, as well as on compositions by Franconian composers.

Students on the Master’s programme in Wind Orchestra Conducting have the opportunity to gain extensive practical conducting experience through their work with the ensemble. In addition to regular rehearsals, they organise an annual concert project, which enables them to put their artistic and conducting training into practice.

Soloists include both renowned artists and lecturers from the university, as well as students who have qualified through internal auditions. The Wind Philharmonic also maintains close collaboration with the university choir and the vocal students at the Würzburg University of Music. Joint concert projects enrich the ensemble’s artistic profile and foster interdisciplinary exchange within the university.

From the 2026/27 academic year onwards, the orchestra’s artistic profile will be expanded through collaboration with renowned guest conductors. These collaborations provide students with valuable artistic inspiration and the opportunity to work with internationally recognised figures from the world of wind orchestras.
