Chanter sur le livre | ensemble "le chant trouvé

Vocal improvisation of the Renaissance

"Le chant trouvé" is dedicated to the historical improvisational practice of the so-called chanter sur le livre (also cantus super librum/super librum cantare). In the rehearsals, techniques are worked out which make it possible to sing in several voices "over the book", i.e. to develop a piece improvisationally from an original - for example a Gregorian chant or a secular chanson. The hexachord solmization, which has existed since the Middle Ages, serves as an aid. By embedding the improvisations in original works of the Renaissance, the feeling for compositional standards and stylistic peculiarities grows at the same time.

The ensemble performs regularly in Würzburg and the surrounding area, and concert tours to northern France and Italy took place in 2021 and 2022.
