University Orchestra

Students in the Bachelor and Master’s programs and the Meisterklasse for orchestra Instruments comprise the University Orchestra. Aside from performances at the festive events of the University, the focus is on project related rehearsals for symphony concerts with works from the Classical, Romantic and Modern eras, including performance premieres. At the end of each Winter Semester the University Symphony Orchestra also plays for an opera performed with the Opera School in the Bibrastrasse Theater. Aside from that, the Symphony Orchestra works on large choral projects or appears with the Big Band in cross-over concerts. Professor Ari Rasilainen has led the University Symphony Orchestra since 2011. In addition, instructors from the Opera School as well as students of choral and orchestral conducting have opportunity to
conduct the performances.

Solo parts are performed primarily by students, who are chosen through the University’s internal audition committees. Insight into the work of a professional orchestra is made possible by cooperation with the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
