As the largest ensemble of the jazz department, the university big band is the representative figurehead of jazz education at the HfM Würzburg. The focus is on the cultivation of the historical as well as contemporary "big band sound". Arrangers such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington or Bill Holman must not be missing in the repertoire of a big band. In addition, it is an exciting challenge for the university big band to constantly follow contemporary trends. Current grooves and improvisational styles allow this body of sound to resound again and again in a new guise.
