Prof. Andreja Šolar

The Slovenian conductor Andreja Šolar studied conducting with Maestro Marko Letonja at the Ljubljana Academy of Music and wind orchestra conducting with Maestro Jan Cober in the Netherlands. After graduating, she took over the direction of a professional wind orchestra and gained extensive experience as an artistic director and conductor over a period of 17 years. She honed her skills with maestri Jorma Panula (symphony orchestra), Toby Purser and Dejan Savić (opera conducting).

In 2022, she was awarded third prize and a special prize at the International Conducting Competition in Brașov, Romania. Her success at the Blue Danube Opera Conducting Competition strengthened her enthusiasm for opera and opened up new career prospects for her.

Šolar works with renowned symphony and wind orchestras, including the Brașov Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania), MÁV Symphony Orchestra (Hungary), Stara Zagora State Opera (Bulgaria), Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid (Spain) and numerous other orchestras in Slovenia, Portugal, Croatia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Austria and the Netherlands.

In addition to her work as a conductor, she teaches conducting and piano in Ljubljana and was appointed professor of wind orchestra conducting at the University of Music Würzburg in fall 2024. She also conducts seminars for wind orchestra conductors in several European countries.
