During the academic year, the university organizes several competitions in cooperation with foundations and institutions. In some external competitions, individual applications are not possible, but the university nominates the best candidates in a preliminary decision.

By participating in the university's internal competitions, all students undertake to take part as prizewinners or preliminary winners in the annual prize-winner concert of the Würzburg University of Music.

A list of numerous other music competitions is provided by the German Music Information Centre (MIZ).
