The Würzburg composer Yuri Choi will be presented at this year's'Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik', the largest festival for new chamber music in Germany and one of the most important for the musical avant-garde worldwide.
Yuri Choi first studied composition in her home country of South Korea at Kyungpook National University before beginning her master's studies at the University of Music Würzburg with Prof. Andreas Dohmen in 2020, which she successfully completed in 2021. She then further developed her compositional skills in the Meisterklasse. On February 6, 2023, she presented parts of her convincing œuvre during the final examination with UMJIGIM for harp, Grafitti for ensemble and XMSN for flute, clarinet, piano, violin, viola, violoncello and playback and received the master class diploma.
With XMSN she also applied for the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik. Among a large number of works submitted to the jury in the course of a worldwide call for entries, this composition was selected to be performed in the festival concert "START.PUNKT" by the International Ensemble Modern Academy under the direction of Xizi Wang.
In addition to the START.PUNKT concert on Friday, April 21, 2023 (Ruhr-Gymnasium Witten, Aula), her composition will also be broadcast by WDR: WDR 3 Studio Neue Musik | May 21, 2023, 23.03 - 00.00 hrs.
"Whoever starts here is no longer a beginner by any means. The Newcomer Concert presents scores that have been chosen from a worldwide call for entries. They will be performed by the generation of performers of tomorrow, the International Ensemble Modern Academy. No longer an insider tip." (WDR)
