Jazz students win audition with national jazz orchestra

The students Jean-Loup Eberhardt, jazz saxophone (class Prof. Hubert Winter / Leonhard Huhn) and Sebastian Claas, jazz bass (class Prof. Reza Askari) were successful in the selection audition for the Bundesjazzorchester and will be part of this top national ensemble for the next two years from March 2025.

Sebastian Claas was born in Aschaffenburg in 2002 and grew up in a family of musicians. He first learned his main instrument, the double bass, classically at the age of five, before his interest in jazz was awakened. From 2017, he was part of the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra for many years, during which time he began his junior studies and then his bachelor's programme in jazz bass at the University of Music Würzburg. He spent his third year of study in the USA (Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY) and was able to gain valuable experience with Jeff Campbell, Reuben Rogers and Linda May Han Oh. He is currently in demand as a bassist in the Würzburg, Nuremberg and Munich area and performs regularly with young, up-and-coming formations. Sebastian Claas on his success: "It means a lot to me personally to be accepted into the BuJazzO - I've been dreaming about it for years! It gives me the opportunity to get to know the best young jazz musicians from Germany and to play with them in a big band. I'm really looking forward to the experiences of the next two years."

Jean-Loup Eberhardt, 23, is an alto saxophonist from Munich. He is at home in many genres - from traditional jazz to jungle/drum and bass. He has been studying jazz saxophone with Prof. Hubert Winter since 2020. Jean-Loup Eberhardt on the successful audition: "Being accepted into Bujazzo is a great honor for me, as it offers the opportunity to play great music by many different composers, to connect with like-minded people and of course to challenge my own playing in new ways. I'm incredibly grateful to be part of Bujazzo now and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming projects."
