Young bassoonist earns coveted scholarship place

Sören Geiger

Sören Geiger has been studying bassoon in Prof. Albrecht Holder 's class at the University of Music Würzburg since fall 2022. He had already achieved impressive successes before his studies. He was a bassoonist in the Baden-Württemberg state youth orchestra and the national youth orchestra. He won three national prizes at the "Jugend musiziert" competition. In 2023, he took part in the 5th László Spezzaferri Music Prize in Verona, where he won first prize with full marks.
In February 2025, Sören Geiger performed together with Cornelius Müller (clarinet) and Paul Breyer (piano) at the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra Bad Brückenau's university podium. They presented works such as the "Worlds Beyond Suite" by Daniel Schnyder, the Trio in B flat major op. 11 "Gassenhauer" by Ludwig van Beethoven and Michail Glinka's "Trio pathétique".

Sören Geiger has now also earned himself one of the coveted places in the Hermann Levi Academy of the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich. This offers highly talented musicians the opportunity to gain their first professional experience and get to know the work and extensive repertoire of one of the world's leading opera orchestras.
