In August 2024, our alumna Carola Reul will take over the demanding and coveted position of orchestra director at the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, one of Germany's most renowned orchestras. She succeeds Clara Marrero, who has held this position since 2019.
Carola Reul studied secondary school music at the University of Music Würzburg from 1991 to 1995, majoring in piano (classes of Prof. Martin Dombrowski, Prof. Peter Schulz-Thierbach and Wolfgang Arnold) and minoring in flute (class of Hanna Feist). She completed her teacher training at grammar schools in Passau and Nuremberg. However, she soon developed a desire to further her professional development in the field of cultural management and followed her "apprenticeship years" with a degree in Cultural Management at City University London. During her studies, she was able to gain her first practical professional experience in the orchestra office of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. From 2000 to 2007, she brought her skills to HarrisonParrott UK , an international agency active worldwide in all areas of classical music requiring professional accompaniment, maintaining strategic partnerships with internationally renowned orchestras, festivals and musicians. During her time in London, she was a permanent member of the BBC Symphony Chorus and sang under renowned conductors, including concerts at the BBC Proms. In 2007 she moved to Konzertdirektion Schmid in Hanover. There, as Senior Project Manager, she successfully managed numerous international orchestra tours at home and abroad as well as special musical projects. From 2012 to 2018, the committed and successful cultural manager was also a member of the board of the International Artist Managers' Association (IAMA). Carola Reul has been Managing Director of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie since May 2019.
