for the CD "Escribí" by the composer Klaus Ospald

The CD Escribí by composer Klaus Ospald was awarded the prestigious German Record Critics' Award - a significant recognition for a work that impresses with its artistic depth and formal clarity. The award not only recognizes Ospald's compositional skills, but also the outstanding production of this recording.

Klaus Ospald, born in Münster in 1956, has been one of the most independent voices in contemporary music for decades. After studying composition with Jürgen Ulrich at the Detmold University of Music and with Berthold Hummel at the Würzburg University of Music, which he completed with a master class diploma, he developed an unmistakable style that combines tonal rigor and poetic depth. Ospald has also been a lecturer at the University of Music Würzburg since 1982.

Early awards such as the scholarship at the Cité des Arts in Paris (1985) and the sponsorship prize of the state capital Stuttgart (1987) as well as additional studies with Helmut Lachenmann underline his artistic development. The Free State of Bavaria awarded him the State Prize in 1988 and in 1997 he was honored with the XXIII Premio Leonardo da Vinci.
Works by Klaus Ospald have been premiered at the most important festivals for contemporary music, including the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, the Steirischer Herbst Graz, the Munich Biennale, the Bremer Podium and the Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt. His music is characterized by intellectual stringency and a subtle, often literary-inspired musical language.

The German Record Critics' Award (PdSK e.V.) is presented by an independent panel of around 160 music critics and journalists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Every quarter, the jurors assess current new releases in over 30 specialist juries, which represent the entire stylistic diversity of the music landscape - from classical music and jazz to pop, rock and audiobook art.
