The University of Music and the Würzburg Singing and Music School hosted a special event in the Mozartareal ballroom on June 1, 2025. As part of a summer concert, the first "Mozart-Prämien" were awarded by Mayor Christian Schuchardt and the President of the University of Music, Prof. Dr. Christoph Wünsch.
The event marked the start of a new cooperation between the University of Music and the Singing and Music School. The Big Band of the University of Music (directed by Prof. Marko Lackner) and the Big Band of the Sing- und Musikschule (directed by StR Cornelius Wünsch) performed at the event. They showed the enthusiastic audience how cooperation between the two institutions can take place on a musical level.
The cooperation involves the formation of teams of three consisting of students from artistic and educational degree programs at the University of Music and teachers and pupils from the Sing- und Musikschule. Through a mentoring program with teachers from the municipal music school, the students are given an intensive and personal insight into professional life, as well as experience in teaching advanced students or prospective professionals. Pupils at the music school are in turn each assigned one of these students as a mentor, who takes on the task of supporting the young people in preparing for the aptitude assessment and getting to know the university.
Mayor Schuchardt was enthusiastic about the developments and cooperation at the Mozartareal. His ambition to bring together the various musical institutions in the Mozartareal and to create synergies through cooperation is being implemented in an impressive way through the project: "The music location of Würzburg is being strengthened through cooperation projects like this," continued Schuchardt. His thanks went to the Sparkassenstiftung der Stadt Würzburg, which is funding the awards.
The President of the University of Music, Prof. Dr. Christoph Wünsch, thanked Lord Mayor Schuchardt as the initiator of the project as well as Prof. Dr. Katharina Deserno and Prof. Michael Forster, who developed the concrete project idea. He also thanked the management team of the Singing and Music School, Managing Director Anne-Katrin Kuhn and Head of Education Andreas Straßer, for their uncomplicated and constructive cooperation.
