The University of Music is perceived by the Würzburg public in particular through its diverse range of cultural events. The internal and external projects of the Department of Elementary Music Pedagogy (EMP) make a valuable contribution to this.
On December 15 and 16, EMP students performed this year's "Christmas Sound Story" under the direction of Prof. Daniela Hasenhündl. In five performances, it delighted over 700 guests this year, including children from 19 Würzburg daycare centers and families from the EMP model classes.
The Christmas story was told by Piet the Penguin and Wanda the polar wolf. In a nine-week work phase, the students developed their own songs and pieces of music. In the spirit of EMP, the audience was actively involved in the action through sound-gestural, movement-oriented and vocal participatory activities - such as belly-sliding with Piet, howling like a wolf with Wanda or drumming with the little polar bear.
A Cristal Baschet, on loan from President Prof. Dr. Wünsch, was used in the ice music. The students once again demonstrated their creative potential in sound production and gave the audience a very special listening experience, both visually and acoustically.
Once again this year, the students succeeded in opening up spaces of experience in which emotional expression, aesthetic experience, openness to a broad concept of music and active involvement come together.
The project is an example of how elementary music-making enables social participation and acts as a future-oriented bridge between people, both on an artistic level and in music-mediating interaction.
An accompanying CD production in the university's recording studio (Jürgen Rummel) documents the project in a sustainable way.
