On July 8, 2025, Ministerialdirigent Dr. Tobias Haaf, Head of the Department "Universities of Applied Sciences, Universities of the Arts" at the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts, visited the University of Music Würzburg together with Ministerialrätin Patricia von Garnier. The aim of Dr. Haaf's inaugural visit was to get to know the university and gain an insight into current projects and challenges.
During his stay, he first attended lessons in the piano class of Prof. Bernd Glemser and chamber music with Prof. Denise Benda, followed by a demonstration of the hyper organ in the concert hall by Prof. Dr. Hannes Ritschel, during which Dr. Haaf tested the instrument himself and improvised on the organ as a former student of Christoph Weinhart. At a meeting with the student council, he had the opportunity to hear the students' perspectives and concerns. In the subsequent discussion with the University Board, current projects and central aspects of university development were discussed. The focus was particularly on the various facilities and current projects at the University of Music Würzburg as well as issues relating to building maintenance and the prevention of abuse of power. "I experienced passionate teachers, committed students and highly gifted talents and was impressed by the top-level musical support provided here, from PreCollege to postgraduate Meisterklassen. The concepts that aim to appeal to an audience with no affinity to classical music are also particularly exciting. In my opinion, the contribution that the University of Music Würzburg makes to the rich cultural life of the region cannot be overestimated," said an impressed Dr. Haaf.
