The Würzburg University of Music is delighted to welcome Ms Nicola Hartwig as Professor of Wind Chamber Music for the 2026/27 winter semester.
Nicola Hartwig was born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße and received her first clarinet lessons from Kurt Siebein at the age of 7. She later studied first with Johannes Moog and then with Gerhard Kraßnitzer (both members of the German State Philharmonic Orchestra of Rhineland-Palatinate).
Following inspiring experiences in regional youth ensembles in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, she developed a desire to turn her hobby into a career; consequently, after completing her A-levels, Nicola began studying the clarinet under Prof. Manfred Lindner – initially at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, and subsequently, until she obtained her diploma, at the Würzburg University of Music.
Alongside orchestral music, chamber music has always held a special place in Nicola’s life, particularly during her years as a scholarship holder at ‘Villa Musica’.
Following a temporary engagement at the Mainz State Theatre, Nicola Hartwig became principal clarinettist of the Munich Symphony Orchestra at the age of just 22.
