MusiCare Würzburg launches a new event format

Würzburg. With M³: ‘Music Meets Medicine’, MusiCare Würzburg is launching a new public event series at the intersection of music, medicine and science. Launched in May 2026, this collaboration between the Würzburg University of Music, Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg and Würzburg University Hospital (UKW) aims to combine scientific and medical topics with musical experiences, making them accessible to a wide audience in a unique way.

The series kicks off on 24 November 2026 at 7.00 pm with the event ‘From the Larynx to the Cathedral – Music, the Body and Well-being between the Voice and the Concert Organ’ in the Great Hall of the Würzburg University of Music on Hofstallstraße.

Live music featuring the voice and organ will be interwoven with brief scientific insights and extraordinary glimpses into the creation of sound: a live laryngoscopy whilst singing will make the human voice visible, whilst vocal field and frequency analyses will translate what is heard into measurable structures. Voices and the grand concert organ will ultimately engage in a musical and scientific dialogue.

The musical highlights of the evening will feature Julian Beutmiller, Würzburg Cathedral cantor and organist; the internationally acclaimed singer and composer Prof. Rabih Lahoud; and a jazz vocal ensemble conducted by Franny Fuchs.

What do the human voice and a concert organ have in common? How do vibrations become sound – and how does this affect the body, the brain and our well-being? The evening explores these questions not through traditional lectures, but through the direct interplay of music, medicine and science. Prof. Dr Regina Götz (Würzburg University of Music) and Priv.-Doz. Dr med. Fabian Kraus (Würzburg University Hospital) will guide the audience through the programme,

With M³, MusiCare Würzburg is thus creating a stage on which music and medicine can be heard, seen and experienced together – whilst also marking the start of further events in this new format.

The event is aimed at anyone curious about music, medicine and the fascinating connections between sound and the body – regardless of their prior musical or medical knowledge. Admission is free.
