As part of the concert with the University Symphony Orchestra on Tuesday 19 December 2023, the 13-year-old pianist Paul Stich, a PreCollege student, played the Piano Concerto in D minor, KV 466 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart under the direction of Ari Rasilainen with great success.
This was the first time that a young student had been given the opportunity to perform a complete concerto in public with the university symphony orchestra and thus make his debut. Stich was supported by the "Würzburg Centre for Musical Excellence" during his first years at Matthias Grünewald Gymnasium. Since the winter semester 2023/24, Paul has been studying as a PreCollegiate at the Hochschule für Musik in Michaela Schlotter's class.
His musical talent became apparent early on when Paul Stich, born in 2010, began playing the piano and organ at the age of 6. When he entered Matthias Grünewald Gymnasium in 2020, he was immediately accepted into the excellence programme, where he received piano lessons from Michaela Schlotter and organ lessons from Rudolf Müller.
The music-loving young musician has been working as an organist since 2021 and has successfully taken part in several piano competitions. In 2022, he won 1st prize with the highest score at the state competition and 2nd prize at the national "Jugend musiziert" competition. Further successes in the same year were 1st prize at the 11th international competition "Sibiriada" with the special prize for the best interpretation and at the national piano competitions "Stages" and "Sibirian Opus".
