At the suggestion of the Mayor of the City of Würzburg, Mr Christian Schuchardt, a concert series was launched in which the City of Würzburg is collaborating with the Würzburg University of Music and the Musikalische Akademie Würzburg e.V. (Würzburg Music Academy). The concerts will take place in the historic Wenzelsaal of the town hall, the oldest preserved room in the city. In keeping with the historical setting, the focus will be on "early music". However, the programme can also be expanded beyond this, e.g. as a reflection on the "historical" repertoire or on the current line-up. With this in mind, the first concert on 20 October was ranging from Hildegard von Bingen to Antonio Vivaldi (two virtuoso concertos for recorder, strings and basso continuo), movements from Tchaikovsky's string serenade and a suite for strings by Rautavaara, a Finnish modern composer.

The second concert on 29 November will be devoted entirely to early music on period instruments. If the programme is well received by the audience, the concert series will be continued in collaboration with the University's Early Music Department.

You are cordially invited to attend free of charge.
