On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the "Center for Musical Excellence Würzburg" hosted an impressive summer concert in the Flügelsaal of the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium Würzburg. The event honored the successful cooperation between the University of Music Würzburg and the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium and at the same time underlined the exceptional quality of the promotion of young musical talent in the region.
Among the guests of honor were the members of the state parliament Volkmar Halbleib and Patrick Friedl as well as the former principal OStD Walter A. Neubeck, who was instrumental in establishing the excellence branch at the grammar school.
In a joint address, Prof. Dr. Christoph Wünsch, President of the University of Music Würzburg, and OStD Holger Saurenbach, Headmaster of Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium, looked back on the Center's successes to date and gave an outlook on future developments. Both emphasized the great importance of partnership-based cooperation for the targeted promotion of young musical talent. Eva Riedel delivered a greeting on behalf of the President of the Bavarian Music Council.
The concert program impressed with a diverse selection of solo contributions and chamber music performances. A particular highlight was the performance of the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Sinfonia concertante under the direction of Claudia Miksch. Young student Anton Kiselev's own piano composition, which he presented with virtuosity, also left an impression. The festive finale was an ensemble arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach's Italian Concerto in a version by Joachim FW Schneider.
The concert was followed by a summer reception, where guests and performers were able to chat in a relaxed atmosphere and bring the musical evening to a close together.
