Anne Riegler's children's musical "Das tapfere Aufziehmännchen" has won first prize in the"Bühne frei" competition, a composition competition for children's musicals organized by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Landesakademie Ochsenhausen. The prize consists of a world premiere on June 13 at 10:30 a.m. in Ochsenhausen as part of a children's singing week, an inverted edition at Carus-Verlag (where she is already represented with other children's musicals) and prize money. The play is set in a circus where the director bullies his artists and the wind-up man decides to leave. Fortunately, the solidarity of all the acrobats helps the circus to a new, bright future.
The competition describes the musical as follows: "Varied and colorful, mysterious and playful - an imaginative children's opera in a new guise."
Anne Riegler studied piano, instrumental pedagogy and piano improvisation in Würzburg (class of Prof. Matthies), Stuttgart, St. Petersburg and New York City up to Meisterklasse level. Today she works as a pianist and composer and teaches piano and piano didactics at the University of Music Würzburg. Anne Riegler composes works for piano and children's choir. Her Christmas musical "Die drei Weisen gehn auf Reisen" was performed around 35 times in its first year of publication. She has also composed two full-length musicals and a children's cantata (published by Carus). Her focus is on combining the content of the text with the affect of the music: the melodies and the arrangement should appeal to both children and adults and be musically interesting and varied. She touches on a variety of genres and styles from classical, modern, jazz and pop.
