PD Dr. Daniel Hensel

Daniel Hensel, born on 17.04.1978 in Büdingen/Upper Hesse. Studied composition with Gerhard Schedl at the age of 15, later studied composition with Heinz Winbeck, graduated with honors with Manfred Trojahn, postgraduate studies in composition with Michael Obst and Meisterklasse composition with Heinz Winbeck. Doctoral studies in musicology with Peter Ackermann and habilitation in systematic musicology with Wolfgang Auhagen, development of the music analysis software PALESTRiNZER with Ingo Jache.
2007 official German musical contribution to the handover of the EU Council Presidency, 2008 multiple performances of the orchestral work "Gesang des gesegneten Lebens" together with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. II. Symphony of Gustav Mahler by Manfred Honeck, 2009 collaboration with the Ensemble Modern and Jonathan Stockhammer, China tour of Beethoven and Haydn arrangements, commissioned works for the Kasseler Musiktage, the ADEvantgarde Festival, Staatsoper Stuttgart, hr2-kultur and many more world premieres at the Alte Schmiede Vienna, the Austrian National Library Vienna, the Arnold Schönberg Center Vienna. 2020 Performance prize at the International Bach Composition Competition Eisenach. 2021 Bridging Scholarship of the Hessian Cultural Foundation and GEMA Scholarship, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of NEUSTART KULTUR, 2022 Scholarship of the German Music Council funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of NEUSTART KULTUR and premiere broadcast of the 1st (electroacoustic) symphony on BR-Klassik. December 2024 World premiere of "Energien", funded by DMR as part of NEUSTART KULTUR, on the 150th birthday of Arnold Schönberg at the Arnold Schönberg Center Vienna.
Hensel's works are published by Musikverlag Doblinger in Vienna, he is married and has five children.
