Prof. Christoph Eß

Christoph Eß is considered one of the leading horn players of his generation. He is solo hornist of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and prize-winner of numerous international competitions, such as the 'Concorso Internazionale per Corno di Sannicandro di Bari', the 'ARD Competition' or also the music competition 'Prague Spring'. As a sought-after soloist and chamber musician, he has worked with numerous prestigious orchestras (Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, RSO Berlin). Productions on the GENUINclassics and PragaDigitals labels as well as on leading radio stations such as Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio Kultur, Czech Radio and Swiss Radio DRS underscore his successes.
Eß devotes himself intensively to chamber music in a wide variety of formations. As the initiator of the horn quartet 'german hornsound', founded in 2010, and with partners such as Christian Zacharias, Andreas Scholl, the Fauré Quartet, the Zemlinsky Quartet, Quatour Ebène, Boris Kusnezow and Viviane Hagner, he can be heard at leading music festivals on a regular basis.
Christoph Eß began his education at the Tübingen School of Music, and later continued his artistic development at the Basel and Stuttgart Conservatories of Music, where he graduated with honors in June 2008.
From the winter semester 2017/2018 to 2019, he taught as a professor of horn at the University of Music Lübeck. At the beginning of the winter semester 2021/2022, he will take up the horn professorship at the University of Music Würzburg.
