Norbert Daum
After completing his studies at the University of Music in Würzburg, where he first studied with his father Prof. Walter Daum and later with Prof. Martin Göß, Norbert Daum continued his artistic training at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich with Prof. Michael Stern.
During this time, he was already principal trombonist at the Mainfrankentheater Würzburg in the 1978/ 79 season before he was appointed to the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory and became the youngest full-time trombone teacher in Germany at the time.
From 1988, Norbert Daum initially held a parallel teaching position at the Würzburg University of Music, and since 2001 he has taught exclusively and full-time at the Würzburg University of Music.
In addition to teaching the main artistic subject, his many tasks at the University of Music Würzburg include the training of instrumental teachers on the Bachelor's degree programme in Artistic Pedagogy. In this role, he has been head of the main subject seminar for brass instruments for many years and is therefore responsible for the didactics and teaching practice of the core artistic subject within this subject group.
Norbert Daum has also been the director of HfM-Brass, the in-house large brass ensemble of the HfM Würzburg, since 2001. This ensemble is made up of students from various degree programmes, from Bachelor's and Master's degrees to school music, and performs in various concert series.
Since 2007, he has been the artistic project leader of the Junge Philharmonie Würzburg, a youth symphony orchestra that has since become an established musical force in the region and beyond.
Back in 1998, Norbert Daum founded his own publishing house "crescendo-brass", where he edits sheet music especially for brass - in a spectrum ranging from the care of old to contemporary music in variable instrumentation. He is particularly focussed on editions for instrumental pedagogy.
