Eleven-year-old PreCollege junior student Jonas Diehm ( Ulrike Goldbeck class) won first prize in his age group at the 3rd International Piano Competition "The Young Musical Lions" on September 27, 2025 in Leipzig. The competition is organized by the Grieg Meeting Place Leipzig and is aimed at highly talented young pianists.
In addition to a compulsory composition by Edvard Grieg, Jonas performed works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Zoltán Kodály. He impressed the jury with his musical maturity, creative power and technical brilliance.
Jonas (*2014) received his first piano lessons at the age of four. Since the winter semester 2024, he has been taught by Ulrike Goldbeck in the PreCollege program. He has previously won several 1st prizes at the national Jugend musiziert competition - both as a soloist and in chamber music. With his success in Leipzig, he is now venturing onto the international competition stage.
The International Piano Competition "The Young Musical Lions" has been held in Leipzig since 2021 and offers young pianists from various countries a stage to showcase their skills under professional competition conditions. The event places particular emphasis on exploring the work of Edvard Grieg, who is always part of the compulsory program.
