Please note: The guest appearance of Nick Finzer unfortunately has to be postponed indefinitely. However, the big band concert and the masterclass will still take place with a different line-up

From June 30 to July 2, 2025, the University of Music Würzburg will welcome the internationally acclaimed jazz trombonist Nick Finzer for a special guest residency. At the invitation of Prof. Tim Hepburn, Finzer will travel to Würzburg from the University of North Texas, a new partner university of the University of Music Würzburg.

During his visit, Nick Finzer will not only work with the students, but will also make a public appearance at two special events:

July 01 - Public big band concert

July 02 - Masterclass for trombonists

Nick Finzer is one of the most prominent voices on the young international jazz scene. Named a "Rising Star" by the DownBeat Critics Poll, he inspires audiences worldwide with his energetic original compositions and impressive virtuosity on the trombone. As a bandleader and composer, Finzer has toured the globe and staffed numerous jazz greats. His seven albums to date have received international acclaim and reached top positions in the JazzWeek radio charts. His work has been recognized with two ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Awards and a New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America.

His current album "Legacy", released in April 2024, is a musical tribute to the jazz trombone legend J.J. Johnson. Since 2018, Finzer has been the first professor of jazz trombone at the renowned University of North Texas and shares his extensive expertise not only in teaching, but also with a worldwide online community.

The University of Music Würzburg is delighted to welcome this outstanding musician and cordially invites you to the public concert on July 1st. Tickets are available via Reservix and at the Falkenhaus.
