Unlike originally planned and scheduled, the interdisciplinary symposium "PERSPEKTIVEN_20/21: Die Kunst und die Krise" could take place in November 2020 - partly at the University of Music Würzburg, but mainly in digital form. Prof. Clara Blessing, the initiator and organizer of this exchange, found a format for the event that was discursively stimulating and profitable in terms of content, which was also feasible under the current regulations surrounding the Corona pandemic.
The publication "Die Kunst und die Krise - Analysen und Perspektiven" (Art and the Crisis - Analyses and Perspectives), edited by Clara Blessing and Prof. Dr. Christoph Henzel at the publishing house Königshausen & Neumann, brings together the papers presented at the symposium, which examine the effects of the Corona pandemic on cultural life from various perspectives. They deal with emergency solutions for closed cultural institutions, with the existential challenges faced by artists, and with the prospects for art and culture. Numerous questions were - and still are - raised: How dangerous is making music for our health? How have musicians and artists responded to crises throughout history? What is the social relevance of art in the present? What professional and artistic perspectives are offered to aspiring arts and culture professionals?
The volume includes the following contributions:
