A cooperation between the Sparkasse and the University of Music on 14.05.2025

In the middle of Würzburg, in the immediate vicinity of the Residenz and the four buildings of the University of Music, the new concert series "Music in the Neigbourhood" kicks off. For the first time, the beautiful event hall of the Sparkasse in Würzburg will be transformed into a stage for the finest jazz.

What you can expect:
Young, talented musicians from the University of Music's jazz department meet a true master of his craft: Alexander Bühl - celebrated tenor saxophonist, composer, arranger, bandleader and winner of the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize.
Together they ignite musical fireworks with classics and evergreens by George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Pieces such as "Fascinating Rhythm" and "Night And Day" are performed in new, exciting arrangements that combine improvisational virtuosity with precise ensemble work
. All in all, an evening full of energy, joy of playing and thrilling jazz!

Biography Alexander Bühl
Alexander Bühl studied jazz saxophone at the University of Music Nuremberg from 2006 to 2012 with Hubert Winter, Steffen Schorn and Klaus Graf. He completed both his diploma and his master's degree with distinction. From October 2012 to October 2013, he studied composition at the Stuttgart University of Music with Rainer Tempel.
He has toured extensively with the Bundesjazzorchester, including to India, China, South Africa and the Philippines.
As part of his master's degree in 2012, he founded the Alexander Bühl Sextett with which he recorded his first CD.
He was a finalist in the JazzComp Graz composition competition and the Biberacher Jazzpreis and plays regularly with the Tobias Becker Bigband, the Sunday Night Orchestra and the Jazzfactory Orchestra Fellbach.
In 2012, he was commissioned by the SWR Bigband to compose a piece that was released on the CD "Die Besten im Südwesten" to mark the 60th anniversary of Baden-Württemberg.
In 2013, the Tobias Becker Bigband released its debut album "Lifestream", which features two compositions by Alexander Bühl. The CD won the German Record Critics' Quarterly Award.
He has been a scholarship holder of the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation since 2014.
In 2018, he won the Jazz Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
