From Thursday, January 16, 5:00 pm to Sunday, January 19, 2025, 1:00 pm, Prof. Ragna Schirmer will hold a piano master class for the PreCollege in the Small Hall, Hofstallstraße building. Listeners are very welcome! The exact timetable will be posted at the entrance to the hall.
The pianist Ragna Schirmer has been highly acclaimed by audiences and critics for many years. Her interpretations are characterized by nuanced detail work and the search for historical and contemporary references. She already made an impressive debut with her award-winning recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations. She received the Handel Prize of the City of Halle for her recording of Handel's piano suites and the ECHO Klassik in 2003 and 2009. Her discography includes 19 CDs, 2 DVDs and a vinyl recording.
In addition to hosted piano recitals, Schirmer also performs in cross-genre theater projects such as Blendwerk (2012) and Ich könnte lachen vor Todesschmerz. One focus of her work is Clara Wieck-Schumann, to whom she has dedicated numerous projects and recordings, including Madame Schumann (2019), for which she received the Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau.
Schirmer performs in renowned halls worldwide and was "Artiste étoile" at the Mozartfest Würzburg in 2023. She is also actively involved in cultural politics, especially in times of crisis such as the coronavirus pandemic. The FAZ newspaper described her as "politically one of the smartest, most thoughtful and energetic artists in our country".
Her passion for teaching is evident in her masterclasses, seminars and her commitment to promoting gifted students at the music department of the Latina August Hermann Francke in Halle. From 2001 to 2011, she was a professor at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts.
