Ensemble playing in crossover formations: Jazzvocal, String Quartet & Jazzquartet

©CHAMBER9

The 9 musicians from 5 European countries all work in parallel in renowned jazz formations, chamber music ensembles and large crossover ensembles such as the 'Metropole Orkest' (NL).

In the master class with CHAMBER9, a series of exciting and important topics will be explored over 3 days - from Thursday (from afternoon), November 7 to Saturday, November 9, 2024 (until afternoon) - using arrangements from the CHAMBER9 repertoire. The focus will be on the crossover between 'classical' and 'jazz' instruments and getting to know and trying out joint performance practice. Two pieces will be brought to performance maturity and presented internally in the nonet instrumentation at the end of the masterclass.
As part of the masterclass, a concert by the CHAMBER9 ensemble will take place on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the Theater in der Bibrastraße.

All elements of the masterclass are aimed equally at students of jazz and classical degree programs at the University of Music Würzburg. In addition to active participation for instruments of the CHAMBER9 nonet line-up (vocals, violin, viola/viola, cello, acoustic guitar/nylon string, electric guitar/steel string, double bass, drums), students of all instruments are welcome to participate passively. Stylistic or jazz knowledge is not required for participation.

During the master class, the strings, jazz rhythm section and vocalists will work separately on the arrangements as well as daily band rehearsals with the entire ensemble. The practical parts will be supplemented by short lectures by guest lecturers on various topics (arrangement and performance, information from the musicians about their work in the music business, what is the EUDORA Quartet, musical examples, etc.).
