The new University Council held its constituent meeting on 22 November 2023. The committee elected Oswald Beaujean, Head of Programme at BR-KLASSIK, as its new Chairman and Prof. Andreas Mildner (Würzburg University of Music) as his deputy.
Thomas Rietschel (TAKE PART Kulturberatung, former President of HfMDK) is already advising and supporting the university in his second term of office as a member of the university council and, since June 2023, Prof. Dr Anja Schlömerkemper, Vice President of Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and Markus Trabusch, Director of Mainfranken Theater Würzburg. Other new members are Oswald Beaujean, Luisa Heese (Curator of Contemporary Art at the Kunsthalle Mannheim), Dr Helmut Kaltenhauser (Chairman of the Bavarian Music Council), Prof. Dr Bernd Redmann (President of the Lübeck University of Music), Prof. Dr Gabriele Saueressig (Vice President of the THWS) and Jochen Schönleber (Member of the Board of Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg). The term of office of the non-university members lasts four years.
Prof Stefan Albers, Prof Andreas Dohmen, Prof Andreas Mildner, Prof Bernhard Pichl, Prof Tobias Usbeck, Markus Sotirianos, Andreas Herold, Kea Niedoba and Vinzenz Wolpold are members of the board from within the university.
The University Council consists of nine elected members of the University Senate and an equal number of personalities from academia, culture, business and professional practice. The committee decides on key university matters, such as the establishment of new degree programmes, the election of the President and Vice Presidents and the university's basic regulations
