The Brazilian mezzo-soprano Catarina Taira, a student in Prof. Christianne Stotijn’s singing class, will join the chorus of the Theater für Niedersachsen in Hildesheim on a permanent contract as Alto 1 from August 2026.
Catarina Taira began her musical training in São Paulo, where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Voice at the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Whilst still a student, she gained valuable stage experience in the São Paulo State Youth Choir and at the opera studio of the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo.
Her operatic repertoire includes roles such as Mercedes in *Carmen*, the Third Lady in *The Magic Flute*, Zulma in *L’italiana in Algeri* and Tisbe in *La Cenerentola*. During her Master’s studies at the Würzburg University of Music, she also took on the roles of Arianna in *Lamento d’Arianna* and Dorabella in Mozart’s *Così fan tutte*.
Catarina Taira has also enjoyed success as a concert singer, appearing, amongst other things, as a soloist in Claude Debussy’s *La Demoiselle Élue* and Luciano Berio’s *Folk Songs*, as well as in Leonard Bernstein’s *Mass* at the São Paulo Municipal Theatre.
Following a guest engagement with the choir of the Mainfranken Theatre and the successful completion of her Master’s degree under Prof. Christianne Stotijn, Catarina Taira is now continuing her professional career in Lower Saxony. With her permanent engagement at the Theater für Niedersachsen in Hildesheim, she will begin the next chapter of her artistic career from August 2026.
