At the beginning of November, Junzhe Jia, a double bass student in Prof. Dominik Wagner's Meisterklasse at the University of Music Würzburg, won first prize at the 14th International K. D. von Dittersdorf Double Bass Competition in Slovakia.
Junzhe Jia (2000) began his double bass lessons with his father and later continued his studies with Prof. Ziping Chen. After completing his bachelor's degree at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing with Prof. Han-Jui Henry Chen, he completed master's courses at the Leipzig and Nuremberg conservatories with Prof. Michail-Pavlos Semsis. Since 2024 he has been studying in the Meisterklasse at the University of Music Würzburg with Prof. Dominik Wagner.
Junzhe has won prizes at numerous competitions, including:
- 2nd Prize & Audience Prize, ZJCM Bottesini Competition Asia (2025)
- 3rd prize, Grunewald Music Competition Berlin (2024)
- 1st prize, Lanyang Double Bass Competition (2019)
- Arndt Joosten Prize, Carl Flesch Academy (2025) - with solo debut at the Philharmonie Baden-Baden
Junzhe Jia gained extensive experience as an orchestral musician with the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Staatsorchester Stuttgart, the Meininger Hofkapelle, the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg, the Nürnberger Symphoniker and the Junge Sinfonieorchester Berlin. He has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra's Orchestra Academy since 2025.
