ERASMUS+ for University Faculty and Staff

Informations for teachers

The European Union’s ERASMUS+ education programme supports international exchange in the fields of education, youth and sport. As part of this programme, teachers at the University of Music Wuerzburg have the opportunity to spend a period abroad in the form of a teaching residency. The aim is to strengthen the European dimension of the host university, to supplement the courses offered there and to impart specialised knowledge to students, who do not want to or cannot study abroad. In addition, the development of joint study programmes and the exchange of teaching content as well as innovative teaching methods will be the focus of the residency. Last but not least, the teachers participating in the ERASMUS+ programme should motivate both the students of their own university and the students of their host institution to also spend time abroad.

Lecturers, who would like to to gain experience abroad and teach in one of the 34 ERASMUS+ programme countries, receive a financial grant in the form of a mobility allowance for their stay abroad. The programme countries include the 28 countries of the European Union as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and Macedonia. Residencies in Switzerland can be funded under the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP), which is similar to ERASMUS+. If you are interested in a residency at an institution, which is currently not an ERASMUS+ partner university of the University of Music Wuerzburg, but which participates in the ERASMUS+ program, please contact the team of the IO. If possible, we will then sign an ERASMUS+ cooperation agreement with the respective university!

Teachers can be funded under ERASMUS+ if they are employed by the University of Music Wuerzburg and have citizenship or a corresponding residence permit (refugee, stateless person, permanent residence permit) in an ERASMUS+ country.

Funding

Mobility for teaching purposes can be funded for a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 60 days (without travel times) under ERASMUS+. The necessary number of lessons per residency is eight hours during the first week of stay (i.e. the first seven days). For each additional day of stay, the minimum number of hours is calculated pro rata. For stays abroad, which are shorter than one week, the required number of lessons is also 8 hours.

ERASMUS+ funding includes

  • destination-dependent financial subsidies for room, board, and travel costs*
  • special grants for handicapped persons (if applicable)

* the rates for room and board are based on the cost of living in the target countries and are ranked in four groups of countries. The following uniform daily rates apply up to the 14th day of residency; from the 15th to the 60th day of residency, the subsidy amounts to 70 percent of the daily rate:

Group Amount per day Countries
1 €180 Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom
2 €160 Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus
3 €140 Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey

The travel allowance depends on the distance between the home and the host university. Depending on the distance, the following amounts are paid out:

Distance Amount
<100 km € 20
100 km – 499 km € 180
500 km – 1,999 km € 275
2,000 km – 2,999 km € 360
3,000 km – 3,999 km € 530
4,000 km – 7,999 km € 820
8,000 km and more € 1,500

Important: Parallel funding for similar costs from funds of other EU programmes is excluded. Similarly, ERASMUS+ mobility cannot at the same time be written off as a business trip. The entitlement to funding at the home university (through national scholarships or loans) should be maintained for the duration of the stay abroad.
