Days of Early Music
The "Days of Early Music", which have been held every two years since 1982, offer variety and diversity in a subjectively imaginative as well as historically informed exploration of music from before 1800. The emphasis changes from festival to festival.
The conception and preparation of the festival is carried out by the department of historical instruments of the university. Regular participants are the university's own Baroque Orchestra on historical instruments under the direction of Prof. Dr. Pauline Nobes (Baroque violin), the Viola da Gamba class (Prof. Friederike Heumann), the historical keyboard instruments (Prof. Ralf Waldner) and the Baroque trumpets under the direction of Prof. Hans-Martin Rux-Brachtendorf, who, among other things, traditionally open the Days of Early Music musically with the sound of fanfares in front of Würzburg City Hall.
Various international guests and guest ensembles enrich the program with concerts, master classes and workshops. Courses with soprano Dame Emma Kirkby and alto Andreas Scholl were among the offerings, as were performances by "The City Music," the "Ensemble Interrogatio" and the "Canto Coronato" with David Catalunya.
In 2025, the "Days of Early Music" will take place from 29 january to 1 february.
