Silke Straub has been known to many music lovers as a jazz singer for years. Her trademark is the clear and precise, at the same time natural, warm and straightforward vocal performance. She studied the artistic and artistic-pedagogical degree programme in jazz singing at the University of Music Nuremberg and graduated with distinction in 2003. The sought-after singer has participated in numerous music projects and CD productions in Germany and abroad. These include ensembles such as the European Brazil Project, which toured for many years with original compositions by band members hailing from various European countries. Many diverse jazz formations such as a quintet without harmony instrument - inspired by Gerry Mulligan -, or the five-part a cappella vocal ensemble Vox5 let the musician gain a lot of experience. She is not only active as a lead singer, but also as an arranger. In 2014 Silke Straub founded her own sextet SILK STREET, dedicated exclusively to original compositions. Equipped with vocals, piano, guitar, cello, bass and drums, she forms beautiful sounds, dissonant as usual in jazz, with echoes and elements from the singer-songwriter genre as well as pop music.

Since 2011 Silke Straub has been teaching voice training at the University of Music Würzburg, majoring in jazz singing. She built up this then newly created format and established it to this day as a fixed, essential part of the major. She accomplished the same in the same year at the University of Music Nuremberg, where she also taught the entire jazz voice major from 2017 - 2021. She additionally taught in the subjects of didactics, methodology and teaching practice. She has also taught at the Berufsfachschule für Musik Nuremberg since 2009.
