Prof. Martin Hummel

Martin Hummel, born in Freiburg im Breisgau, comes from a family of musicians and received his vocal training in Würzburg and at the Scola Cantorum Basiliensis with Kurt Widmer and René Jacobs. Encounters with Margreet Honig, Peter Schreier, Hans Hotter and others gave him essential impulses for his artistic development and pedagogical work. As a soloist he has sung recitals and concerts in several countries in Europe, Asia and the USA. He has participated in numerous world premieres and interpreted works of Renaissance and Baroque music under the direction of René Jacobs, Michel Piquet, Gabriel Garrido and Reinhard Goebel. Radio and CD productions document focal points of his repertoire. Martin Hummel has been a passionate singing teacher since his student days and passes on his experience to students at the HfM Würzburg and on various courses.
At the HfM Würzburg, Martin Hummel was speaker of the vocal performance section from 2006 to 2017 and vice president from 2017 to 2021.
