Prof. William (Bill) Elgart studied at Berklee School of Music and Boston Conservatory in the early 1960s. His artificial activities include over 70 recordings. Among the musicians with whom he has recorded, concertized, made radio and television appearances are Paul Bley, Carla Bley, Gary Peacock, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland, Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz, David Friedman, Barre Philips, John Taylor, Tomasz Stanko, Sheila Jordan, Rudi Mahal, Henning Sieverts, and many others.

He was also a theater musician at the Munich Kammerspiele. From 1991 he taught jazz drums and rhythmic interpretation at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg. Since 2001 he has been Professor for Jazz Percussion at the University of Music Würzburg.
