Prof. Denise Benda

Denise Benda, born in São Paulo/Brazil, comes from a family of musicians rich in tradition.
She was trained by her father, the pianist Sebastian Benda, and subsequently studied at the Musikhochschule Wien with Paul Badura-Skoda, at the Musikakademie Basel with Rudolf Buchbinder and at the Britten-Pears-School/ Aldeburgh with Murray Perahia.
Benda has performed in 20 countries and has appeared in major music venues such as the Musikverein Vienna, the Liszt Academy Budapest, the Prague Palace of Culture, the Barbican Centre London, the Conservatoire Royale de Bruxelles and the Teatro Sistina Rome.
She has also made guest appearances at international music festivals such as the Festival Int. de Piano La Roque d'Anthéron, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the Semaine Int. de Piano Blonay or the Orford Music Festival of Canada.
In 2003 she founded the Int. "Berengaria" Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus, serving as its artistic director for ten years.
Within the framework of her artistic activity, chamber music has always played a leading role. She has been a member of various chamber music ensembles and has collaborated with numerous important artists such as Josef Suk, Tibor Varga, Evgenia Tschugajeva and Isabelle Faust.
Benda devotes herself with great dedication to teaching: for many years she has been teaching as a professor of piano chamber music at the renowned "Musik und Kunst Universität der Stadt Wien" (MUK) and also regularly gives master classes in Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil and Argentina.
Many of her students have won prizes at international chamber music competitions in recent years (ARD Munich, Int. Osaka Competition, Duo Competition Monaco , Città di Pinerolo e Torino, The Art of Duo Boulder-Colorado, Schubert Competition Jesenik, Città di Padova, Int. Duo Competition Ischia, Int. Piano Competition Roma, Concurso Mirabent Barcelona, Brahms Competition Pörtschach, Vittorio Gui Firenze, Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award Lugano, Concours de Quatuors a Cordes Bordeaux, Fidelio Competition Vienna).
In 2012 she was appointed professor of chamber music at the HfM Würzburg.
