Prof. Korbinian Altenberger

Violinist Korbinian Altenberger is an established and widely respected soloist and chamber musician worldwide.
After several years of studying and performing in the United States, he returned to his hometown of Munich to take up the position of concertmaster of the 2nd violins in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that, he was first concertmaster with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne.
At the age of twelve he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival, won numerous prizes at international competitions such as ARD Musikwettbewerb, Postacchini Competition. Michael Hill Violin Competition, Concours International de Violon Tibor Varga and Montreal International Music Competition.
As a soloist he has performed with the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, Auckland Philharmonia, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and the SR and SWR Symphony Orchestras. In North and South America he recently performed with the Winnipeg Symphony, the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, the Iris Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Costa Rica.
Korbinian received special musical impulses through chamber music collaborations with artists such as Shmuel Ashkenasi, Gerhard Schulz, Leon Fleisher, Mitsuko Uchida, Ignat Solzhenitsyn and members of the Guameri, Juilliard and Cleveland Quartets.
His enthusiasm for chamber music was greatly influenced by several invitations to various festivals in the USA such as Ravinia, Caramoor and Marboro as well as in Europe e.g. Prussia Cove in Great Britain, Verbier in Switzerland, the Moritzburg Festival and at the Israeli Chamber Project.
Korbinian Altenberger studied with Charles-André Linale, Keiko Wataya and Donald Weilerstein at the Musikhochschule Köln and at the New England Conservatory in Boston.
