So Young Kim, a student in Robert HP Platz's composition masterclass, was able to prevail against strong competition at the WDR 3 composition workshop in collaboration with the Landesmusikrat NRW. With her orchestral piece "Foramen", she was able to convince the expert jury consisting of Baldur Brönnimann (conductor), Pierre-Alain Chamot (violinist WDR Symphony Orchestra), Patrick Hahn (editor WDR 3), Prof. Brigitta Muntendorf (composer) and Prof. André Sebald (Landesmusikrat NRW) of her skills. Her piece and that of five other young composers will now be premiered together with the WDR Symphony Orchestra on 17 January 2024 in Cologne.

The composition workshop is a collaboration between the Landesmusikrat NRW, the Folkwang University of the Arts, the Cologne University of Music and Dance and the WDR and is intended to promote dialogue between creative and performing artists. The workshop ends with a public workshop concert at the WDR Funkhaus, which is broadcast on WDR 3 and can be experienced worldwide via the Internet and the WDR 3 app.
