The Days of Contemporary Music 2024, which will take place from January 27 to February 2, will focus on the theme of "Resonance" this year. The phenomenon of resonance, of reverberation, has always exerted a great attraction on composers, from Giovanni Gabrieli's echo compositions to the music of our time. In New Music, fundamentally determined by the idea of exploring acoustic events and discovering new sound potentials, the possibilities of thematizing resonances as compositional material have expanded considerably: through new compositional strategies, spatial concepts and installation works, the use of extended playing techniques and electronics. Composers are also looking for new ways to contextualize the idea of resonance in transfer: be it sociologically, as an idea of a successful world relationship in which subject and world touch and transform each other, or as an aesthetic concept: resonance as "showing a reaction". Resonances show the change of what was - allow a look into the past and the future. The Days of Contemporary Music 2024 will allow the younger generation of composers to have their say, above all Sara Glojnarić, one of the formative personalities of the young contemporary music scene, our composer in residence.
Lecturers and students from the university, guest musicians and the SWR Experimentalstudio for live electronics will present new and the latest ensemble and chamber music in six concerts. Workshops and lectures contextualize the performances and are also intended to have an impact on the university.
