ZiHao Wang wins as a duo in the "Ostracised Music 2026" competition

ZiHao Wang, a saxophone student in Prof. Lutz Koppetsch's class at the Würzburg University of Music, was awarded first prize at the "Verfemte Musik 2026" competition in Rostock. Together with his chamber music partner, he successfully asserted himself in the international field of participants.

The competition took place from 09/04/2026 to 12/04/2026 in Rostock, Germany. It was hosted by the Centre for Ostracised Music, which invited participants to the international interpretation competition at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre. More than 60 young soloists and ensembles had applied.

ZiHao Wang was born in Shaoyang, China, and began playing the saxophone at the age of 13. In 2015, he began his bachelor's degree at the Wuhan Conservatory of Music with Jiaxuan Zhang, where he also worked as the director and 1st alto saxophonist of the saxophone ensemble. In 2019, he continued his master's degree with Koryun Asatryan at the Munich University of Music and Theatre, which he completed in 2022 with a grade of 1.0 (very good). He then began postgraduate studies with Prof. Lutz Koppetsch at the University of Music Würzburg.

His artistic activities have taken him to concert stages in China, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. From 2023 to 2025 he was a member of the Bavarian Police Orchestra. In 2025, the Wang-Zadra duo released their debut CD "Incantation" with works for guitar and saxophone.

ZiHao Wang is a scholarship holder of the Deutschlandstipendium (2022) and was accepted into the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now München e.V. funding programme in 2023. His other honours include the special prize at the Kulturkreis Gasteig Music Prize Munich (2022) as well as 1st prize at the Qilu Music Competition (2018, Jinan) and the II Hunan Saxophone Competition (2018, Changsha).
