János Török
Born in Hungary, he began his cello studies at the age of 8. After graduating from high school in his native Szombathely, he entered the Franz Liszt University of Music in Budapest. He became a master class student of Laszló Mezö and Antal Friss. He also studied chamber music with Frgyes Sándor and András Mihály. He obtained the Artist Diploma in 1969, at the same time he won the competition of graduates. While still a student, he became a member of the Hungarian Radio Orchestra (Budapest Symphony Orchestra). In 1973 he became a solo cellist in the same orchestra. During this time he played under conductors such as Abbado, Markewitsch, Dorati, Gardelli, Derveaux.
Numerous tours, recordings and radio broadcasts (chamber and solo) took place during this period. He was a founding member of the "New Budapest" String Quartet, and played with the Tátrai and Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestras. In 1975 he came to the Federal Republic of Germany and became principal cellist in the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra. With his wife Enikö Török and the violinist Alexander Kaczkowsky he founded the "Amati" Piano Trio. Since 1981 he has also been a lecturer at the University of Music in Würzburg. He teaches violoncello, chamber music, orchestral studies and didactics. Together with his wife he gives concerts in Hungary, Switzerland and USA, among others.
