At the beginning of 2019, a cooperation agreement between the HfM Würzburg and the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymasium (MGG) established the only Bavarian "Center for the Promotion of Musical Excellence" to date. Pupils who meet the relevant requirements can take advantage of special support conditions in the excellence branch of the Gymnasium and - provided they pass the aptitude test at our institution - receive lessons with professors in the PreCollege. Access to both institutions is initially independent of each other, but in combination they offer ideal conditions for preparing to study music without having to give up ambitions for a high school diploma.
In addition to the "quarter" (two and a half out of ten years), the return to face-to-face lessons and the outstanding results of these two and a half years of cooperation were celebrated: e.g. 13 prizes at the national competition "Jugend musiziert" in 2022 alone, consistently successful aptitude tests at music colleges, very well attended workshops for chamber music, conducting, improvisation and composition.
In the presence of Ministerialrat Kammler (StMUK), President Prof. Dr. Wünsch and Oberstudiendirektor Dr. Sachse-Weinert as well as his deputy Dr. Saurenbach, teachers of the university and the Gymnasium as well as collegiate students and pupils, the HfM and MGG held a ceremony followed by a drink in the grand piano hall of the Gymnasium. Chamber ensembles with young musicians from the PreCollege and the Excellence Branch, supported on the grand piano by Barbara Anton, arranged a concert with greetings from the above-mentioned representatives of the participating institutions, in which current successes and projects as well as perspectives for the Center of Excellence were pointed out.
