Trumpeter Hans-Peter Salentin began learning his instrument at the age of eleven. His first teacher at the Cologne Music Academy, John Eardly, a former member of the Gerry Mulligan Group, had a great, lasting influence on him. This is one reason why Salentin is always looking for beautiful and catchy melodies.

As a jazz musician, he is a true real-time composer and melody inventor. This made it easier for him to realize his ideas both as a composer (12 CDs, film music, music for string quartets) and as a producer (lounge music). Many of his compositions are also arranged for big band.

The musical spectrum of his productions is widely spread. It moves between mainstream, free improvisations and wave music. (Amazon, I- tunes, CD Baby). In 2010 Salentin founded the label "DEWEY-records" and the publishing house of the same name.

He has been teaching at the University of Music Würzburg for over 20 years and was appointed professor for jazz trumpet/ combo/ big band in 2003.

As Yamaha Recording Artist (2003 -2010) he gives workshops all over Europe. Since July 2010 he is also Adams Artist (Dutch Company).

Hans-Peter Salentin worked among others with the following musicians:

James Carter( Leverkusener Jazzfestival), Chick Corea ( Frankfurt Musikmesse), Bob Mintzer, Simon Phillips (Toto), Brandford Marsalis, Jeff Hamilton, John Scofield (Leverkusener Jazzfestival), Miroslav Vitous, Roland Höppner, Bill Dobbins (YVP CD "Live im Stadtgarten" and Trio Projekt "The Music of Bill Evans"), Decibal Badila, John Goldsby, Thomas Alkier, Mathias Schubert, Mike Herting, Frank Möbus, Peter Weniger (YVP CD "My funky Salentin(e)"),Kuba Stankiewicz, Z Namyslowski (festivals and tours through Germany and Poland), Charlie Mariano, Frank Köllges (Moers Jazzfestival), Susan and Martin Weinert, Mirek Honzak, John Riley and John Di Martino (YVP CD " All John") , Andrea Centazzo (,,AC Voyagers'')CD, Tato Gomez( Lounge and Wave CDs), CD Music for String Quartet,,Penguin Dance'' , CD,,Parisian Melange ( recorded live at Würzburg/Bibrastr ), Lounge CD,s ,,Kirolada'', Lounge CD ,,Still Time at Mazury'', Lounge CD,,Red District''...

Hans Peter Salentin on the Internet

Bill Dobbins (Rochester New York, former leader of the WDR Big Band): "He is one of the best European trumpeters."

Jazz Podium: "HPS has emerged as a major European trumpet player."

The American Jazzmagazine: "Salentin furthermore uses every electronic possibility available today to make his trumpet create sounds previously unheard, without relinquishing the basic sounds. His playing and improvising are excellent, with some Miles references in it, also indebted to Nils Petter-Molvaer or Markus Stockhausen."
