Jürgen Ellensohn completed his studies with Prof. Lothar Hilbrand at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory and with Prof. Hans Gansch at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He completed both studies with distinction.

In 2002/2003 he was an academist in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. His first engagement as principal trumpet led him to the Bern Symphony Orchestra in 2003. Since 2005 Jürgen Ellensohn has held the same position with the hr-Sinfonieorchester / Frankfurt Radio Symphony. As an orchestral musician, he regularly substitutes with many renowned orchestras (including the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian State Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Tonhalle Zurich, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and many more).

After having already taught as a professor at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory since 2015 and previously as a lecturer at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern as well as a lecturer at the Musikhochschulen Frankfurt/Main and Mainz in addition to his activities in the orchestra, Jürgen Ellensohn was appointed full-time professor for trumpet at the HfM Würzburg in the winter semester 2019/20.

As a soloist, he has performed with a variety of major orchestras. He has made guest appearances in numerous countries and at a wide variety of festivals. He has worked with conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Gérard Korsten and Matthias Pintscher.

He devotes himself to chamber music with great enthusiasm. He is a member of the Austrian brass ensemble Pro Brass and hr-brass.

After studying to become an academic mental coach at the University of Salzburg, Jürgen Ellensohn gave numerous master classes at universities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Since 2014 he has been working as a mental coach at the Orchestra Academy of the Hessischer Rundfunk.
